Unique and Heartfelt Farewells in Essex and East London

The loss of a loved one is an experience unlike anything else we shall ever have to face. Nothing quite prepares for the torrent of thoughts and emotions that arise and can threaten to overwhelm.

When you choose me as your celebrant, you’re not just getting a professional speaker and writer to lead and inspiring and unforgettable ceremony - you’re gaining the benefit of my many years of experience supporting those who have had to face the heartbreaking challenge of personal bereavement.

Whether you wish for a non-religious, lightly spiritual or Christian ceremony, I’m ready to provide the support you need.

What I can offer

I’m a story-teller, a writer, a warm and engaging public speaker. I’m curious. I know how to ask the right questions. I’l put you at ease and listen as you share that unique life story.

Together we’ll create a fitting and loving farewell - as special and unforgettable as the person it honours.

Planning the Perfect Farewell

Let’s arrange a meeting for me to learn all about your loved one. This will usually be face to face - in your home or a venue of your choice.

When distance is a challenge, we can talk on the ‘phone, hold online conversations and group calls - whatever works best for you.

Those who are grieving have often said that the very thought of sorting a funeral fills them with dread - but that their minds were put at ease by my quiet and calm manner.

I’ll take time to get to know you - to understand the family dynamics.

How to Say Goodbye

Many find a traditional or “lightly religious” ceremony to be most appropriate and reassuring.

I also offer a more flexible approach for those who prefer something different.

You might think that laughter is totally inappropriate at such a time. Maybe sometimes. Yet from experience, the inclusion of carefully-timed humour can work wonders.

We all have a story or two to tell that will bring a smile and comfort, even in tough times.

You might prefer me to lead the entire ceremony. Or family and friends can share readings, memories, songs.

I’ll help with all of this. Of course I can take over if everything becomes too much on the day.

Funerals

Let the Music Play!

Music plays such an important role. Most venues use a digital library with access to virtually everything that’s ever been commercially released. You may know exactly what you want. Your loved one may have left strict instructions! I have a wide knowledge of the various musical genres - from classical to pop, jazz to funk and soul, secular and religious, and will be glad to give lots of ideas to get you started.

It’s the same with poetry and readings - I’ll help you find just the right words.

Most chapels now also have the facility to show photos and even video tributes.

Orders of Service

Memorials and celebrations of life

Coming together to say goodbye to a family member or friend plays a vital role in the healing process.

However, the growing popularity of non-attended or so-called “direct cremations” means that this opportunity may have been denied.

So I can also arrange a celebration of life some time afterwards; an event that truly captures the spirit and character of a life well-lived.

This could be in a hall or restaurant - even in the garden, often informal: blending fond memories with favourite music, family videos, food and drink.
